The old saying is that you should never bring a knife to a gunfight. This DC cop whipped out his gun at a snowball fight. The full story from USA Today.
The Today Show’s Tabloid Formula
Posted by Steve Kremer in Movies & TV on December 16th, 2009
I used to really enjoy watching the TODAY show in the morning while crunching cereal and drinking coffee. But anymore the show has become this weird formula tabloid show. It seems every story has the same intro: “They were a normal family living the good life in the suburbs until the unthinkable happened.” Here they insert the description of the disappearance/kidnapping/robbery/murder/infidelity/chimp attack. There follows 6 or 7 minutes of interviewing anyone and everyone about every gruesome detail. I guess I have to remember that the morning news is a business and this is the formula that sells.

From MSNBC:
New Zealand toddler Cory Elliott was so moved by the infectious grooves of Beyonce’s megahit “Single Ladies,” he couldn’t contain himself. And like any doting parent is liable to do, Cory’s dad, Chester Elliott, captured the moment on video.
Here’s the full story from MSNBC. Plus, here’s the HD video from YouTube
Randy Quaid Arrested – Cousin Eddie In Trouble

Every time Catherine would turn on the microwave, I’d piss my pants and forget who I was for about half an hour.
Maybe Randy Quaid forgot where he was when he skipped out on a hotel bill for over $10,000 in California. The cops caught up with him in Texas. Here’s the story from TMZ. Here are some great quotes from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Little Dorrit Wins Emmys
Posted by Steve Kremer in Movies & TV on September 21st, 2009
Little Dorrit won seven Emmys including best Mini-Series. I really enjoyed watching this Dicken’s classic. Watch this trailer and pick up the DVD. Five stars. ★★★★★
Amazon’s description of Little Dorrit
Scandalous secrets, strangling bureaucracy, and crippling debts collide in the compelling BBC/Masterpiece Classic adaptation of Charles Dickens’ weighty novel, which debuted in serial form in 1855. Mrs. Clennam (Judy Parfitt), a shut-in, kicks the complex storyline into action when she hires 21-year-old seamstress Amy Dorrit (newcomer Claire Foy, a warm and sympathetic presence) just days before her son, Arthur (Matthew Macfadyen, Pride & Prejudice), returns to London after 15 years at sea. Amy lives with her proud father, William (a heartbreaking Tom Courtenay), in Marshalsea, the debtor’s prison where Dickens’ own father did time. Despite his mother’s denials, Arthur becomes convinced that there’s a connection between the Clennams and the Dorrits, so he attempts to solve the mystery on his own, with help from sniveling rent collector Pancks (Eddie Marsan, Happy-Go-Lucky) and hindrance from surly servant Flintwinch (Alun Armstrong, New Tricks) and the aptly-named Circumlocution Office.

My Past Adventures In Television Land

A publicity photo circa 1985 for News 15 WANE-TV, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. That’s me in the center with the tie. At my left is Rick Portrikus. We were supposed to look like we were producing the 6PM news
Recently I was reviewing a resume and it reminded me of an old story from TV Land. Back in the days before the personal computer people created their resumes on a machine called a typewriter. Some people knew how to type, others didn’t. I did so a young co-worker asked me to type his resume. He was a part time TV News production assistant who was looking for full time work and was quite literally “fresh off the farm” from one of the little towns around Ft. Wayne. As I was typing up the resume I noted that his job history listed every single job he ever had. I advised him that maybe he should leave off his very first job. He had listed as his first job “Shoveled manure at my uncle’s farm when I was 14.” I took it off the resume, but in retrospect I think that perhaps shoveling shit and the TV news did have a lot in common.

I killed a man!…um…it was all a dream
Posted by Steve Kremer in Movies & TV, Strange True News on April 18th, 2008
Back in 1985 the biggest show on TV was Dallas. They had a season that was so bad they decided to start the next season saying everything the previous year had been all a bad dream. Popular character “Bobby” wasn’t dead, but just takin’ a shower. If you were alive back then here’s a flashback via YouTube.
Life is imitating art in Derbyshire, England where a man told police he’d killed a homeless man. The police investigated then found it was all a dream. Here’s the full story…
