Again this morning I was assaulted by local car dealer’s TV commercials screaming at me. Buy now, Buy now! Back in one of my previous careers I produced TV shows and commercials. In 2003 I wanted to try something different with a commercial for Blossom Chevrolet. In the past Blossom was famous for an animated clay figure named “Clay” who said the tag line “Blossom Chevrolet, Lordy They’re Good People.” I found an old, dusty Clay mascot outfit in a storeroom at the dealership. I got it cleaned up and created the original commercial with Clay dancing around to the song “The Hokey Pokey”. Unfortunately that original commercial is lost to the ages, but the follow up spot “Blossom Tax Sale” is above. Two dancing mascots…and a catchy kid’s song..about as different from the typical screaming car spot as you can get. Fun huh? You may recognize the announcer’s voice as Dave Smiley from The Smiley Morning Show on WZPL Z99.5. So, will you have the “Hokey Pokey” song stuck in your head the rest of the day like I will?
