On a backroad just south of Abeline, Texas I got a friendly wave from a gentleman sitting outside on a cold sunny morning reading a book with two dogs on his lap. I stopped and over the cacophony of his 10 or so dogs barking I asked if I could take his picture. His name was John. He said he’s read every Louis L’Amour novel. This one has a cattle drive from Abeline up to Amarillo where he grew up. He wished there were more L’Amour novels. As I drove away he sat again in his chair with three or four dogs jostling to hop in his lap.
